Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
• Where can we view your furniture?
You are of course welcome to come take a close look at the kids beds in Ottenhofen (about 25 km east of Munich) and do your own vibration and wobble tests on the spot - of course with extensive consultation and planning of your children's room.
If you live too far away for a viewing and a direct consultation with us, we can establish contact with customers in your area where you can go to view our kids furniture. We are of course always glad to provide additional consultation by phone.
• Can we view your beds in furniture stores?
No, we do the consulting and sales for our beds ourselves. That has two advantages and one disadvantage for you.
Advantages:
1. Due to the fact that we know best our beds and their many possibilities, we can also respond best to your ideas and personal wishes, and, to some extent, produce intricate special adjustments.
2. Through our direct sales, you have a price advantage.
Disadvantage: You cannot find our beds in furniture stores in your local area. But we can arrange a meeting with a customer in your area so you can look at his or her bed. Since the customers are very satisfied with our beds, they usually will gladly agree to your visit.
• How do I find Billi-Bolli?

• We are looking for a used Loft Bed or Bunk Bed from Billi-Bolli.

• Where can I get your catalog?
You can download the catalog as a PDF file (German, see box on the right side) or order the print version from us.

• What is the difference between pine and spruce? Which wood is more stable?
It's more of a difference in personal preference. In general, pine appears to be a little darker. For many customers, it is difficult to see any difference between the two types. As far as stability is concerned, there are virtually no differences or disadvantages to choosing one type or the other. Pine is about 10% denser the spruce and is therefore a bit harder.
• Do you recommend an oil-wax finish or leaving the wood untreated?
The oil wax we are using saturates the wood fibers, preventing dirt from entering. The surface is slightly smoother and any dirt can be easily wiped off with a damp cloth. For the inside areas of the bed, the oil treatment is not necessarily required. Those who have time and would like to cut costs can also apply the treatment on their own.
• What oil do you use?
For a naturally-oiled bed we use the oil wax "Gormos" by the manufacturer Livos. It contains only pollutant-free substances and loses its smell a short time after application. For beds oiled with honey color, we use an oil by the manufacturer "Leinos". If you prefer a different product, we can apply this as well.
• My child has neurodermatitis. Do you recommend oiled or untreated wood?
We use a special oil-wax by Livos. We can send you the technical information sheet for this oil-wax. The ingredients are listed, so you can discuss it with your doctor and then decide.
• Which wood is suited best for a colour varnish?
Beech is the best wood for a colour varnish. With spruce and pine there can occur small spots of discoloration in rare cases, even several years later. The reason is the resin content of these wood types. With our solvent-free paints, this can not safely be ruled out, and does not constitute a reason for complaint. However a discolored spot can be easily painted over if necessary.
• Our child has a handicap. Are there also awesome Billi-Bolli beds for children with disabilities?
Yes, we can customize our beds according to your child's needs. Please do not hesitate to contact us. We can then discuss what adaptations are necessary (such as stronger and/or higher gates, for example).
• Should we order the parts for conversion right away if we wish to expand the bed at a later time?
This is not necessary, as you will get an unlimited availability guarantee from us. You can use your storage space for something else. However, you would save on shipping costs since it would then be only one order.
• Is there a writing desk that can be installed later to the Loft Bed?
Yes, you will find it under Shelves and Racks.
• Why does the guardrail of Billi-Bolli beds not continue through the entry area?
For safety reasons. An uninterrupted beam in the area of the ladder may look safer, but in our opinion, it is exactly the opposite. Because the very moment the children reach the sleeping level, they still have to stoop under the beam. Getting out of the bed is also uncomfortable. You as a parent will also find it difficult to get into the bed, e.g. if you want to lay down with the child. Therefore, we think an unobstructed entry area is much safer.
If you still would like an uninterrupted beam in the entry area, you will receive it at no extra charge.

Original quote on the subject: "What I dislike about the bed from ........ is that the beam in the entry area is uninterrupted. Do you know whether or not I can just saw it off? Although I am no expert, I think it's not really necessary for safety reasons, and your beds do not have such beam either. I think it's very impractical (especially for parents who also have to be in the bed frequently...) and rather dangerous."

We think so, too. Get out the saw ;-)
• Are the slats in the slatted base flexible and clamped or rigid and screwed?
The slatted base is in a groove. It is free of metal. The individual slats are flexible and are not individually screwed. Small blocks prevent the slatted base from slipping out. Installation is simple.
• What is the distance between the slats of the slatted base?
The distance between the bars is 3 cm, making the slatted base suitable for any mattress.
• Is the bed is suitable for a water mattress?
Yes, that works. We have a number of customers who use water mattresses.
• Can we order certain boards untreated and then decorate them by ourselves?
We do not want to limit you creative activity! Just tell us which boards you would like to remain untreated.
• What kind of castors for the Bed Drawers are provided?
You can choose between two different types: for hard floors (wood, stone, tile) you can get castors of a soft tread, and for soft floors (carpets) we have hard castors so that the bed drawers will always work the best possible way.

• Are you affiliated with the company Gullibo (Gulibo)?
We are in close, friendly contact with the developer of the Gullibo beds, Mr. Ulrich David. We can provide appropriate conversion parts and accessories for your old Gullibo bed to a limited extent. The company Gullibo itself no longer exists.
The basic construction of our beds is similar to Gullibo, but they differ in details (the guardrail Our beds grow with your kids. That means that throughout the course of time, you can assemble them in different assembly heights without having to buy additional parts. The assembly heights and terms shown here apply to all types of beds. In the drawing: Loft Bed Adjustable by Age, assembly height Midi-3. Depending on the assembly height, the space underneath the Loft Bed is suitable e.g. for a play shop, a desk, or a cool play den.

For more information see Assembling Possibilities and Other Terms. height, screws, slatted bases, Bed Drawers, handles, etc. are slightly different).
